Wood Joist Span Checker
Compare a floor-joist span against the published SPF No.2 reference table. A reference figure, not a code check: real spans are sized by a licensed structural engineer.
Basis & Assumptions
- Reference spans are published IRC/AWC maximums for Spruce-Pine-Fir (SPF) No.2 solid-sawn floor joists at 40 psf live load / 10 psf dead load (L/360), for one species and grade only.
- This is a reference figure, not a code-compliance verdict, and it does not scale to other timber species or codes (IS:883, Eurocode 5); those need their own published tables.
- Real structural spans must be sized by a licensed engineer for your local code, species, grade and actual loads.
For quick design checks and study — not a substitute for your local Development Control Regulations, NBC provisions, or a licensed professional's judgement. Always verify against the bye-laws that apply to your site.
