Ramp Gradient Calculator
Work a ramp both ways: from geometry to gradient, or from a target gradient to the run you need. Gradient ratio, slope percentage, angle and sloped length — all from the same inputs.
Basis & Assumptions
- Pure trigonometry: a gradient of 1:n means 1 unit of rise per n units of horizontal run; slope length = √(rise² + run²).
- Maximum permitted gradients and landing requirements depend on use (accessibility, vehicular, egress) and are set by NBC 2016 and local bye-laws — check the applicable clause for your case.
Reference values for accessible design live in the Universal Design library.
For quick design checks and study — not a substitute for your local Development Control Regulations, NBC provisions, or a licensed professional's judgement. Always verify against the bye-laws that apply to your site.
